Kimono Ken

A Kimono Ken branch recently opened at the basement of the Shangri-La Mall bringing the number of Japanese food choices in the mall to 5. The others are Tokyo Tokyo, Kitaro Sushi, International Sushi Bar and SumoSam.

Unlike the other food concessionaires in the basement, Kimono Ken is enclosed. There are ample seats available. The layout is such that the use of space is maximized and yet it does not appear crowded or busy. I have yet to see it full, however. Today at lunch, there were only 20 or so diners. One wonders if the place would still be comfortable if packed with customers.

The staff are attentive and friendly. Service is quick. The only problem that I noticed was their difficulty in processing credit card transactions.

Food wise, I can only speak about the Chicken Teridon (PHP 140) which I had today. It's basically chicken strips in teriyaki sauce garnished with sesame seeds. The chicken was tender and had just the right flavor. However, serving size wise, I feel you get more value for your money at SumoSam and Teriyaki Boy which offer bigger servings.

I would like to go back and try their other dishes. Who knows, I might be in for a more satisfying experience next time.

Food? Not Bad. Certainly better than expected. Although, this will be my all-time-low for Sashimi. I've tried Maguro & Shake Sashimi in countries without these respective fish fished or farmed locally.

Also, the service was less than stellar. Everything was just fine until my guest's entree selection was ordered incorrectly. I heard what my guest said; I heard our server repeat the orders in full. Our waiter explained that he KNEW what he ordered and that was that.

My point: As in most Outstanding restaurants, local or overseas, You never tell the customer that he was WRONG. NEVER! In this business, you can't afford to have an OFF-NIGHT. Especially when you are serving a party of 8.

Totally agree with you about how poor customer service can ruin a restaurant even if the food is worth coming back for.

Thanks for visiting.
