Teriyaki Boy

If there's one cuisine that comes a close second to the family favorite, Chinese food, it's Japanese. Personally, I'd rather be in a Japanese restaurant when dining alone. After all, I get enough exposure to Chinese food when with family.

One of my favorites is Teriyaki Boy and it has been so since I first tried it in 2001 in Tomas Morato. The other branches I've been to in the last so many years (MegaMall, Eastwood, Promenade, Madison Square) have also satisfied.

In picture is their Lapu Lapu Tempura (PHP 108) and Yakimeshi (P38). I am particularly fond of the Lapu Lapu Tempura because it fulfills the fish requirement and is relatively low-priced. Imagine, 6 strips of deep fried lapu lapu fillet at a little over PHP 100. That's just PHP 18 per tempura. And it's not all batter too. The fish portion is very generous. It comes with tempura sauce and is best paired with Yakimeshi (Japanese fried rice). Or may also be paired with the gohan (Japanese steamed rice) or eaten alone.

Other dishes which I've tried are the tofu steak, Teriyaki Boy chicken, shake teriyaki, sukiyaki, kani salad, gyu asupara maki, kani furai, ebi furai, ebi tempura, kakiage tempura, California maki, Teriyaki Boy chicken don, California temaki, etc. All surpassed my expectations.

Teriyaki Boy assures its customers of getting seated within 15 minutes. And this is a good thing. After all, the restaurant is one of the more popular Japanese food chains in the country. The wait list can really be long during peak hours. This picture was taken in Promenade when I had a late lunch at 2 pm on a weekday. Guests were all seated in the periphery or the smoking area outside.

Another reason we love Teriyaki Boy is because S5 started working there in 2005. Or do we love her more because she's with Teriyaki Boy?
