Acts of Kindness: Now Showing

Two movies talk about acts of kindness. Although both films talk about the same theme, one is a comedy and the other is drama.

The first is Pay It Forward which starred Kelin Kline, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment. Its taglines spell what the movie is all about.

  • Sometimes the simplest idea can make the biggest difference.
  • When someone does you a big favor, don't pay it back, pay it forward.
The more recent one is Evan Almighty which starred Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman. In this movie, God challenges Evan to build an ark.
God: How do we change the world?
Evan Baxter: One single act of random kindness at a time.
God: [spoken while writing A-R-K on ground with a stick] One Act, of, Random, Kindness.

We are all starring in the movies of our lives. A blogger once asked "Why doesn't life have a rewind button?" I answered "Because if life had a rewind button, we would all have problems moving forward".

There are a number of opportunities in our lives where we can perform acts of random kindness. It may not be big, it may not be bold but it still can make a difference. We are too engrossed in being stars that oftentimes, we forget the bit players. They are part of our movies too. And believe me, kindness is what matters to the one watching from up there.

So, next time, somebody asks for information, spare him some of your time. Don't pretend to be busy or you don't know what he is talking about. Sometimes, our time is only what other people need. Observe rules and regulations. Fall in line. Respect others' rights. The list goes on and on.

And when people show us some kindness, be grateful. Do not ask for an arm and a leg.

And when we ask and our request cannot be granted, understand and still be grateful. Maybe we are asking too much. Do not take rejection as being unkind. Maybe they have other responsibilities too.

We are as much directors as actors in our own lives. Let's make things happen.

I hope that's not the ending of Evan Almighty! I haven't seen it! :)
That's so true. Even if they don't show any appreciation, it doesn't matter. What bugs me the most, though, is when they're mean about asking you for help, like they're prepared for you to reject them!

Author:Timlight, thanks for visiting too.

Dhanggit, do watch them especially Pay It Forward.

Manggy, I'm not telling. What bugs me is when you go the extra mile and yet they're never satisfied.

I LOVE that line! You have some really great insight yourself!

Pay it forward is a great idea. When I was pregnant with my child, I was helped by people I had never met. They heard about my story from my sisters and friends. I would receive boxes of clothes and toys from people I did not know.

Now I do the same when I see an expectant mother having a problem.

God bless you.
