Bizu
After a long time of not hearing from each other, my friend Endapea and I are catching up. We met for the third time yesterday, 4 weeks after our initial meeting. When she called me to set up a meeting, I requested that we meet in Greenhills for brunch. She agreed and asked that we meet at Bizu at the Promenade.
Before yesterday, I've dined at Bizu twice already. The first time with my friend Zara, the second time alone. On both times, I was impressed but also felt that subsequent outings would be for special occasions as their food is expensive.
A basket of bread was complimentary and came with butter and jam. The bread was very good and came fresh from the oven.
I had the Roast Herbed Chicken (PHP 320). The menu describes this dish as chicken marinated in herbs, slow roasted to golden perfection and served with vegetable rice pilaf, caramelized onions and fresh arugula. It was good although I preferred it to be more of rosemary than any other herb. I really liked the vegetable rice pilaf. It was different and tasted very good. I just didn't like that it had garbanzos. I ate them anyway, at least some of them.
Endapea ordered the Sole Meuniere (PHP 445), fillet of sole with lemon caper butter sauce served with creamy mashed potatoes and tournee of vegetables. I've been curious about this dish since it was featured in No Special Effects. I've been thinking of cooking this for Good Friday and so researched already on where to find the ingredients and how much. When it arrived, I was a bit surprised as I was expecting something similar to Manggy's version. What was served seem to have been deep fried. Endapea gave me a portion to taste. It was good actually but not what I expected. It was crunchy on the outside yet soft and juicy on the inside. Cold Storage sells a pack of sole for less than PHP 200. Knowing that much, I found this dish overpriced considering that the fillet was sliced very thinly.
Endapea suggested that we have the Pandan Iced Tea (PHP 95). It was served in a carafe and was refreshingly delightful. This is definitely worth coming back for.
The interiors of Bizu is done in white and lavender, brightly lit, exuding a feeling of calm and softness. Service wise, the waiters were very attentive.
Overall, Bizu is a good place to meet old friends and bring family. Just be prepared to spend more than the usual.

Hahaha! Thank you for the linkage. I know Bizu prides itself on its France-ness but I did base my recipe on the great-grandfather of French cuisine, Auguste Escoffier. But yeah, some of it is fried deeply, but it lessens the role of the butter, which is a minus in my book. I can't believe you did not have dessert! It's mandatory in Bizu, isn't it? :)
Manggy, and when it's deep fried, it feels like it's fish and chips. And I just came from the gym. So not ordering dessert was a successful exercise of tolerance.
