Starbucks

Starbucks means many things to many people. It is a mecca for coffee lovers like my friend Zara and research-driven mentor P. It is a cool place to hang-out for yuppies and teens or those laptop-bearing souls. Yet for others it is a status symbol.

For non-coffee addicts like me, Starbucks also means non-beverage choices. The donuts are a no-brainer. They're good. I like the sugar-raised one while my secretary prefers the chocolate covered one. Last time we were there, Zara ordered the Bacon and Caramelized Onion on Focaccia Bread (PHP 140), her favorite since it was introduced. I initially wanted to order the sandwich with pesto but spied a new offering on the counter. I had the Hungarian Sausage, Egg and Cheese on Ciabatta Bread (PHP 90), slices of Hungarian sausage and white cheddar cheese nestled atop fluffy scrambled eggs, served warm. It was very good and priced just right. We both had coffee, mine was cold and Zara's was hot.

Not everybody, however, likes the sandwiches at Starbucks. My dad prefers his sandwiches freshly made and not just microwaved which is why Starbucks is not a preferred choice for Sunday breakfast.

What about you? What does Starbucks mean to you?

I'm not a big Starbucks fan but I like coffee and deli sandwiches. I go to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I think it has been 4 years since I stopped going to Starbucks. But hey, I like their promotions and planner (although I don't have any of those). My friends sold their arms and legs just to get the wonderful planners. :-)

starbucks to me is one of the cornerstones to my passing my medical boards and my diplomate boards. :) i know they must lose money sometimes because I tie up the tables for so long, but I can't help myself. :)

hmmm... where did i put that planner?

Back in college,I had a love affair with starbucks. I needed the caffeine to study my lessons. Slowly I discovered their bread and pastries, i am in love with the sausage roll.

The sandwhiches in this post looks yummy, might as well right it the next time i visit starbucks.

hi doc! i'm not a starbucks fan either eh. but i do crave for them sometimes. i don't know, but it seems like the fad didn't really get to even in college. i had too much going on for me to care if i was 'seen' there (bec back then for most of us it was considered pretty cool if you hang out there). hehe.

but during those rare times that i enjoy going to coffee shops, it's because i spend it with family and friends. it doesn't matter what brand it is. :)

I like the eclair in Starbucks and their choc cream chip frap. But I only go to Starbucks if I am with my family or friends. I like it better if I spend my time there with friends. Coffee or frap and some catching up.

starbucks for me is mocha frap though i seldom buy one. it's one of the things i really find to be expensive. i don't know how much does it cost in the Phils nowadays but here's something to ponder on for starbucks fans:

1 mocha frap per week at P120 (assumption only) = P6240

2 per week = P12480

3 per week = P18720

it's a lot of savings di ba?

Starbucks means a lot of things to me. I actually have a post on my own blog about my own Starbucks story. It means too many things that I felt the need to make a post about it.

I usually go to Starbucks for my morning coffee whenever I'm out of town on business. The reason being is that I can have pricey coffee and get reimbursed for the expense. Hehehe

I love their Caffe Mocha and their butter croissant. I also like their sausage, egg, and cheese on ciabatta bread but it tends to ruin my lunch appetite thus I settle for just 1 croissant.

starbucks means cinnamon rolls with lots of butter and cream! this is my favorite starbucks' pastry. i usually have it with hot latte. yummy!

Oh nooo.... If Starbucks was suddenly wiped out from the face of the earth I don't think I'd notice! Hahah :)

I only go there when my friends drag me... And I usually have an iced tea or raspberry frap.

Dyosa, I've only tried CB&TL twice. Once in Singapore as it was part of the Singapore stopover promo and another time at Eastwood. I remember I had their tea. I don't remember trying their deli offerings here.

Claire, in our time, it was Dunkin Donuts. But I never did that too as I studied mostly at home.

M, I haven't tried the sausage roll. Thanks for the tip. Are you still in love with Starbucks?

Iris, I agree with you. When I was in training, we'd go to a Seattle's Best usually in the afternoon to hang out, share stories. I mostly had water and a pastry.

Lynn, will check out that eclair. Thanks for visiting.

Nina L, yup. There's even a book which calls it the "latte factor". There's one in each of us.

Kayinspired, will check out your story.

Panaderos, that makes going to Starbucks fun. Free coffee!

Mari, hmmn, cinnamon rolls? Ma try nga.

Manggy, me too. I'm easily dragged.

Emdy: I still love coffee but i opt for other cheaper alternatives now that I don't need the space to study. Hehhe, i have realized how much i spent for starbucks when i was in college. Sana, i saved it na lang for my unemployment phase in life diba?

But its okey, caffeine was really a big help when i was studying... the damage in my figure and pocket has been done!

HAHAHA

Starbuck for me means... Reading Corner. There was even a time I couldn't even sit at Starbucks without reading something! Because that's where I studied for boards, at my favorite branch -- Harbor Square.

Their Caramel Macchiato is my TOP comfort drink.

But like your Dad Em Dy, I don't like their sandwiches. One time, my sandwhich was even 'OVER-heated' in the microwave! Argh!

I love Starbucks! :) I like their hot white chocolate, iced latte and light caramel frap :) Love their cinnamon roll, tuna pandesal, and breakfast sandwiches too (the one with bacon & egg or multigrain bagel) :D Comfort food!

Em Dy said...

M, you're right about it being damaging to the figure. It's loaded with calories especially with whipped cream, cinnamon, chocolate syrup, etc.

MerryCherry, it seems like Starbucks is a popular choice for med students.

u8mypinkcookies, the sandwiches offered differ pala from branch to branch.

starbucks is coffee + people watching to me. I usually try to get a good seat where I have a good vantage point to ogle at others having coffee or those passing by. he he. I haven't really tried any of their non-coffee products, ever since they stopped selling rhum cake from purple oven.

hi, doc em... i'd like to invite you to TBR this week. I'm hosting, and I promise the topic is not toxic. it's will be about being at a crossroads - in other words, the choices we make and why we make them. you can read more about it over here.

hope you can join in! you don't have to write a new post - just mail me a link to a related post you already have. :)

Starbucks is where I sometimes find comfort. It's where my family loves to hangout. During my medtech years, I go there to study. During those times, there were only few students taking advantage of the free AC and space for a cup of coffee for studying. Right now?! I would rather take my coffee home to study. Why? noisy starbucks rats! I even encountered law students yelling across the room to his friend discussing law stuff. i knoe immaturity can be outgrown but stupidity lasts forever. owell...

dak said...

btw, favorites?

iced coffee jelly caramel macchiato!
dome cake!
tazo tea with honey!

Em Dy said...

Mon, people watching? I'm sure there are more like you.

Dr_Clairebear, will think of something to write or check my archives.

Dak, it's easier to find comfort in solitude. Noise doesn't quite cut it. Enjoy your coffee.

for me, starbucks means overpriced coffee! nyahahaha! :D for a while, i was able to swear off coffee because i had way too much coffee when i was in college. but now, i have to have at least a cup, as in a huge cup! ;) to save, we just buy the "designer" ground coffee and brew it at home. :D wais na misis! :)

Em Dy said...

Munchkin Mommy, I'm sure you have more tips for the home. Wais nga.

OH my, I so love their chocolate donut, and a number of their cakes. I;ve stayed away from those for over a month now though, in my effort to NOT gain any MORE weight.

In my past life I used to swear I wouldn't spend over a hundred pesos on one beverage. But I've spend too much on it over the past three years. I got the planner, enough said. :)

Em Dy said...

Verabear, it does add up to a lot, no? Expenses and calories wise. Thanks for visiting.
