Best Kept Secret

What's Your Family's Best Kept Secret? is the title of an article today in the dining section of the Philippine Star. The article calls for contributions from readers about their families' secret recipe.

For some families, guarding a secret recipe is almost like guarding a family heirloom. Think Max's Fried Chicken. Well-loved, distributed all over, copied but never equaled.

It got me thinking too about my family's secret recipes. The dishes I commonly associate with home are calandracas and ube halaya. Even if they're no secrets, I don't think any of my generation has learned them. Not one is exceptional in the kitchen although S5 and cousin Bong do cook. They have yet to take over the kitchen though when we have gatherings at home.

Does your family have a secret recipe? Have you learned it? Are you willing to share it?

Hmmm...I have a grandaunt who may want me to keep some of her recipes secret, but personally I don't have any secret recipes :) Every recipe I have can be shared :)

My grandmother has a lot of (kapampangan) secrets, but I haven't yet learned them. I think we'd drive each other nuts in the kitchen!

Nah, no secret recipes from my family. Most of the stuff I make came from cookbooks and friends who willingly shared their recipes. Would love to have a recipe on how to make fish balls and the sweet sauce.

i used to guard my recipes as secrets.. but later on when cooking and a lot of people asking for recipes.. i find out that sharing recipes is better than keeping it as secrets:)

ChicaJo, and thanks for doing so in your blog!

Manggy, something like Hell's Kitchen perhaps?

Kayni, can't help you there. I don't cook.

Sakai, I think so too.

Kreez, that's generous of her.
