Hancock
There are movies where you meet actors for the first time and they make such an impression. Such is the case with Independence Day and Will Smith. I loved his portrayal of the regular soldier turned overnight hero. He looked good in uniform especially where he's shown walking across the desert. He was equally suave in Men in Black.
Then Hancock. Scratch those images of Will Smith behind. In this movie, he portrays a foul-mouthed, drunk superhero who desperately needs a makeover.
And that's where Hancock is different. It's not a typical Will Smith starrer. It's also not a typical movie about superheroes. Beyond that, I cannot say more lest I give out spoilers. Suffice it to say that the movie has its share of surprises.
The movie also talks about the power of publicity, branding and advertising. Hancock is a spin doctor's dream.
And thanks to one played by Jason Bateman, we get a glimpse of what a superhero played by Will Smith should be like.
