Tell Me and Win

I love superheroes. I remember watching in earnest shows such as Justice League, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Wonder Woman. A black and white photo of Christopher Reeve as Superman even adorned my notebook back in those days when TV or movie merchandise was not very common. If a movie about superheroes is screening, chances are I've seen it already or planning to see it.

I'd like to know how you feel about superheroes.

  • Who is your most or least favorite superhero? Why?
  • What is your most or least favorite superhero movie? Why?
  • If you could have one superpower, what would you like it to be?

Leave a comment to tell me what you think. Or you can post your thoughts in your blog; just leave the URL in your comment so I can find it. Remember to include your email (formatted as yourname AT emailprovider DOT com).

Leaving a comment earns you one raffle entry. A blog post earns you another. A person is only allowed a maximum of 2 entries (one for commenting and one for a blog post).

And since the theme is superheroes, the winner gets two tickets to the July 17 evening screening of The Dark Knight at SM Megamall.

Deadline of posting comments or blog posts is on Sunday, July 13 at 6 pm. The first name generated by the List Randomizer gets the tickets. I will post the winners at 8 PM. The winner then has 24 hours to contact me re details as I will be sending the prize by courier.

This contest is my participation in Shai Coggins' 52WoC#2: Hold a Contest/Blog Raffle. I hope to make this a regular feature.

what coincidence! i also have a similar theme for the 16th edition of the blog rounds which i am hosting. you might want to check it out here. ugh, shameless plugging there.

and i might as well join in the fun...

my bias leans towards the marvel superheroes. i didn't fancy DC that much, save for batman.

MOST FAVORITE SUPERHERO: Spiderman - he's the most "plausible" superhero with a lot of limitations, he's not too perfect; also like his sense of humor

LEAST FAVORITE SUPERHERO: Superman - opposite of Spiderman, near perfect

MOST FAVORITE SUPERHERO MOVIE: Batman (1989) and Batman Begins (different styles but both are twisted)

LEAST FAVORITE SUPERHERO MOVIE: Batman and Robin (maybe i avoided the films with bad reviews; it wouldn't be fair to write down Superman 4...)

SUPERPOWER: the power to bend space-time continuum, like Hiro of Heroes

Oooh I'm joining! I'll post my answers here!

* Who is your most or least favorite superhero? Why?
Her name is Hawkgirl or Shayera Hol (in the recent Justice League stories). She was initially sent to gain intelligence for her planet's military. She forms a bond with the JL folks. Later on though she discovers that her planet had another plan -- to destroy earth. She helps the Justice League, who defeat her planet's military. Shayera was then branded a traitor, both to her planet's men and her JL colleagues. She takes it upon herself to resign from the JL, and soul-search. Eventually she does go back to join the league, but not without hesitation from some members.

Wow this is long. Why do I like her? Because she's a strong woman with principles. She could have blindly served her planet's military, but her humane and compassionate side shined through. She was also very mature by stepping away from the JL to find herself first. She had no ego to deal with. She was true to herself after realizing her mistakes, and then moved forward once she discovered herself. I love that about her.

* What is your most or least favorite superhero movie? Why?
I really dislike the Superman movie with Brandon Routh. I didn't feel it was necessary to create a new Superman, and the story wasn't anything new. The twist at the end also was something I didn't enjoy much. And the stunts? Could've been better. It was highly remiss in storytelling, it boils down to that.

* If you could have one superpower, what would you like it to be?
I would love to be a mind reader. :D I enjoy learning about people, so having the power to know them this way would be great. I won't abuse that power though. ;)

I would like to join!

FAVORITE SUPERHERO - Thor, or the Mighty Thor. God of Thunder and Prince of Asgard. He is immortal and the strongest of all the Norse gods.

WHY? - because he chooses to protect the Earth (he calls it Midgard) and its inhabitants, even if he could just stay and enjoy being a God in Asgard. Also, I think I like him because his alter-ego is also a physician.

FAVORITE SUPERHERO MOVIE - Spiderman 1, 2, & 3, all starring Tobey Maguire.

WHY? - Because these series finally told the message that it is possible to make superhero movies that do not insult the way loyal comic fans know their superheroes. *Applause for the wonders of CGI* The stunts, the way Spidey shoots his web, the way Doc Ock grapples him with his extra limbs, and the way the Sandman pounds him were all recreated perfectly as it was when we first read it from the pages of Stan Lee. 'Nuff said.

MOST WANTED SUPERPOWER - Superhuman speed, much like what the Flash can do.
