Hellboy II: The Golden Army
While watching the trailers prior to the screening of Hellboy II: The Golden Army, I tried to remember what the first movie was about, what I knew about this unlikely superhero. I couldn't recall much except that he lost his horns sometime during that movie. Apparently, this red superhero did not make an impression on me then.
But this time, he did in a funny sort of way. Hellboy is unlike what first impressions of him conjure and these all bring up an image of a monster. He is warm, funny and adores babies and animals. He has his faults too; anger management issues, clutter and a hunger for publicity. But he is not as angst-ridden as some superheroes are. What I loved most about the movie is his Barry Manilow moment, showing him to be a far cry from the monster humans perceive him to be.
The movie is teeming with action, special effects, some humor and romance too.
Because of what I saw this afternoon, I'm curious to see the first movie again. I think Hellboy is starting to grow on me.

that Barry Manilow scene was so funny! can't remember anything from the first movie myself but this one i enjoyed a lot!
I really liked the first movie, but after this review I think I'll like the second one even more... Might need to take DH to see this one.
This is why I love Movie Madness. I so would never pick this movie on my own. Totally outside my comfort zone, but I think it sounds like it would be funny.
Thanks for playing along!
I missed this one in theaters, but I love the director, Guillermo del Toro (who directed the near-perfect Pan's Labyrinth). I'll have to catch this one on DVD.
